Police arrest Danvers man within hour of convenience store robbery

DANVERS — Police were able to make an arrest roughly one hour after a robbery was reported at the Country Farms Store downtown this afternoon.

According to police, the convenience store at 79 Maple St. was robbed around 3:30 p.m. The suspect showed a demand note but no weapon, and made off with an undetermined amount of cash, said Sgt. William Carelton.

Witnesses described seeing a white pickup truck leave the robbery scene. The ensuing investigation led to the suspect, who was still in Danvers, roughly one hour later, said Carleton.

Daniel E. Lavalla, 36, of 6 Jacobs Landing, Danvers, was charged with armed robbery and intimidation of a witness. Officer Adam French made the arrest around 4:30 p.m.

No injuries were reported during the incident, said Carleton.

The incident remains under investigation. Lavalla is scheduled to be arraigned in Salem District Court on Tuesday.
