Teenager struck by train dies

SALEM —

The teenager who was hit by a train last night near Ocean Avenue and Broadway has died, according to the Essex District Attorney's Office.

The DA's office identified the victim as Dominic DeMartino, 18, of 19 Aborn St., No. 2, in Salem.

DeMartino was struck by a Newburyport-bound commuter rail train shortly after 10 p.m. at the west end of Ocean Avenue, behind the McDonald's restaurant on Canal Street. He was pronounced dead at Salem Hospital.

An MBTA spokesman said transit police detectives suspect alcohol may have been a contributing factor. DeMartino was not alone at the time of the incident, the spokesman said.

The incident is under investigation by the District Attorney's office, the MBTA, and Salem police.
