Fun, festivals set for 2013

SALEM — All your favorite Witch City celebrations, from the film festival to heritage days, will be back in 2013.

Destination Salem, the city’s tourism office, recently released its 2013 calendar, and there is a festival just about every month in the coming year.

All the familiar favorites are there, including — of course — Haunted Happenings in October.

“We have a really good core of annual events in Salem,” said Kate Fox, executive director of Destination Salem.

Sprinkled in among the “perennial favorites” is a lineup of museum exhibits, live music and productions from the Salem Theatre Company, said Fox.

This summer, the Peabody Essex Museum will host an exhibit of more than 230 items created by the House of Fabergé in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including enameled clocks, gold cigarette cases, ruby encrusted brooches and four signature imperial eggs made for Nicholas II and the Romanov family.

The exhibit runs June 29 to Oct. 6.

The 2013 calendar has something for everyone, from free family fun to edgy theater events, said Fox.

The North Shore Pride Parade will return to Salem for a second year on June 29, after a successful first run in the Witch City.

The calendar is “updated constantly,” said Fox — they’ve just added a speaker series at the House of Seven Gables — at
