Police: Man grabs wheel, crashes car

SALEM — A man was arrested yesterday after he allegedly broke the window of a car his girlfriend was trying to drive away, grabbed the wheel and swerved the vehicle into a tree.

No injuries were reported.

Lt. Scott Englehardt said the altercation at 4 Heritage Drive occurred during a domestic dispute. Police first responded to the address after a 9:10 a.m. report of a motor vehicle accident.

Officers determined that the man dragged the woman from the vehicle after it struck the tree, Englehardt said.

Jonathan Torres, 31, of 4 Heritage Drive, Salem, was arrested on charges of domestic assault and battery, assault and battery by dangerous weapon, intimidation of a witness, and malicious destruction of property over $250.
