It’s purple, it’s for girls and it’s a Schwinn valued at $200 — someone stole the bike, according to the log at 9:18 a.m. — from a Leach Street backyard.
Call me. That was the message an officer left at a phone number believed to be the source of harassing phone calls to a woman on Rainbow Terrace. The alleged victim told them she suspects the culprit is the ex-girlfriend of someone she knows.
A driver parked at the East India Square garage reported a smashed window at 12:05 p.m. Nothing was stolen.
Something didn’t look right at 12:51 p.m. when police of the Special Response Unit passed down Salem Street and saw a man “wearing a hood and covering his face with his hand,” according to the log. Next, he “hid behind a motor vehicle waiting for the unit to pass.” It didn’t, and police said they soon identified a man wanted on a warrant, Abiezer Cotto. The suspect then ran down Salem Street, into a backyard and climbed a fence. “Realizing he would not be able to outrun the agile Officer (Thomas) Pelletier and now trapped ... he submitted and was placed under arrest.” Police found a hypodermic needle on his person during booking.
Raymond A. Garland, 42, of 12 Daniels St., Salem, was arrested at 1:43 p.m. on Canal Street by Patrolman Frederick Dubiel and Sgt. Kristian Hanson on charges of possessing a Class C substance and larceny.
