Lots of applicants for Salem's Mack Park house

SALEM — A total of 18 people have applied to be caretaker/tenant of the Mack Park house.

The city is offering Dr. Mack’s former summer home, which has been vacant since the Park and Recreation Department moved out in 2006, for a monthly rent of $500. The historic house overlooks the city’s 25-acre Mack Park.

The city is seeking someone who can repair the neglected stone house and help take care of the grounds. The selected tenant will be offered a one-year lease with an option to renew for two more years.

A committee will review the applications and make recommendations to the Park and Recreation Commission.
