---- — PEABODY — Police say that yesterday, for at least the ninth time since April, thousands of dollars in merchandise was stolen from the Victoria’s Secret at Northshore Mall — and this theft may have been the biggest yet.

A store employee contacted police around 1 p.m. yesterday afternoon to report the theft, which had apparently occurred “sometime between last night and today,” according to the incident log.

Police say a total of 72 bras worth $52 each had been stolen, making for a loss of $3,744.

The store had reported a larceny of $1,500 of merchandise just the previous Thursday, August 22. Before that, it reported that 60 bras had been stolen in the days before July 16, and on June 9 that “another high-volume panty larceny” had occurred.

Previous to those incidents, mall security reported on June 2 that it was following a shoplifter who had absconded with $3,000 worth of merchandise from the store. The suspect, described as being a white or Hispanic 5-foot-5-inch female in a red shirt, eluded police.

On May 26, store staff reported that somebody had stolen about $1,400 in underwear as the store was closing its doors for the evening; another theft of women’s underwear worth about $1,400 was reported on May 16.

The very next day, the store reported that 165 pairs of underwear had been stolen. Each pair was worth an average of $14.50, making it a $2,392.50 theft.

Another theft was reported to have occurred on April 7. In that incident, a 5-foot-5-inch female with orange or red hair was reported to have stolen $1,000 worth of goods from the store.
