About 7:30 a.m., police arrested Giles M. Westie, 33, of 103 Porter Road, Boxford, on a charge of domestic assault and battery.
A woman reported at 4:03 p.m. that somebody had written “snitching” on a stop sign at Green and Leach streets.
Police responded to 43 Loring Ave. after a 4:11 p.m. report of an two-vehicle accident. Edgar L. Esteban, 38, of 40 Clinton St., Lynn, was arrested on a charge of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, sixth offense. No injuries were reported.
The Fire Department hosed down a smoking mulch pile on Swampscott Road, according to a 5 p.m. log item.
An 8:04 p.m. report of a burning smell and smoke in a building brought police and the Fire Department to 195 Lafayette St. “SFD arrived on scene and determined that the washing machine was the cause of the smoke,” wrote police. “The washing machine belt overheated, causing it to smoke. SFD disconnected the washing machine and cleared.”
Police responded to a 10:21 p.m. report that a man was playing guitar at 15 Clifton Ave. and advised him to “discontinue the outdoor use.”
Police received a 10:27 p.m. report that a woman had found a receipt outside the Wal-Mart on Highland Avenue, then went inside, found two of the items on the receipt and returned them for $49.81 in cash. An officer was unable to locate her or verify her identity.
A 10:29 p.m. report that a sunflower on a traffic island was blocking a stop sign brought police to Derby Street and Fort Avenue. “Stop sign is clearly visible, no issue, clear,” an officer wrote later.
An officer responded to the area of 430 Lafayette St. around 3:45 a.m. after a report of an airhorn going off, possibly from a boat. “I did check the area, but did not see or hear anything,” the officer wrote. “A fisherman was fishing in the area and stated that he had been fishing for about a half-hour and did not see or hear anything.”
