Essex District Attorney Blodgett to be honored by ADL

SALEM — Essex County District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett will be honored next month with the North Shore Leadership Award by the Anti-Defamation League New England Region.

Blodgett, who is in his third term as district attorney, will receive the award at the organization’s dinner on Oct. 17 at the Kernwood Country Club in Salem.

The organization pointed to Blodgett’s leadership on a range of issues facing the North Shore, including an epidemic of heroin and OxyContin abuse, bullying, domestic abuse, underage drinking and gun violence.

In addition to his efforts both in prosecuting crimes and preventing them through work with community organizations, schools and others, Blodgett has worked with the ADL on conferences dealing with bullying, hate crimes and civil rights issues.

“Throughout his service as Essex District Attorney, his efforts to hold criminals accountable for their actions, to provide support and service to victims of crime and to enhance public safety have been acknowledged and recognized,” the group said in a press release announcing the award.

The organization also pointed to a long list of other honors garnered by Blodgett during his decade in office, for his work on insurance fraud in Lawrence, in assisting victims, and for targeting drug and gun issues in Essex County.

Chairing the event are Kevin Burke, former district attorney and public safety secretary; Karen Andreas, publisher of the North of Boston Media Group; Salem attorney Robert Mazow; and Flori Schwartz of the Jewish Federation of the North Shore.

Honorary co-chairmen include Attorney General Martha Coakley, Salem Mayor Kimberley Driscoll, retired Appeals Court Judge David Mills, and lawyers Randy Chapman, David Eisenstadt and Mark Pearlstein.
