Hamilton man flown to hospital after impalement

---- — HAMILTON — A 68-year-old man on a ladder, working on a flagpole in his yard, was flown to a hospital in Worcester by medical helicopter after a piece snapped off and impaled him through his right shoulder, police said.

The town’s police and fire departments and emergency medical personnel responded to the accident on Moynihan Street at 3:26 p.m. Responders had to use a sawzall to cut portions of the pole off. The man was transported by ambulance to Patton Park where the helicopter landed to fly him to UMass Medical in Worcester, police said.

The name of the man was not released as of press time last night and the accident remains under investigation. The man’s condition was not known as of last night.

Hamilton police volunteered to drive the man’s wife to the hospital.
