A Gardner Street man reported to police that somebody had cut 17 of his flowers, according to a 5:32 p.m. log item.

A motorist got her foot stuck in between the floor and the accelerator, causing her to drive into a cement barrier in front of 406 Essex St., according to a 6:09 p.m. report. There were no injuries reported and the vehicle was towed.

Police responded to a 7:33 p.m. report of a rowdy group near 133 Essex St. and subsequently arrested a 24-year-old Salem man on a warrant, in addition to Vanessa Caruso, 20, homeless, on charges of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, assault and battery on a police officer and assault by dangerous weapon. She was also wanted on a warrant, according to the log.

A 7:40 p.m. report of a possible brush fire brought police to 40 Leggs Hill Road. Stephan Ignatenko, 21, of 33 Harbor St., Salem, was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and giving a false name to a police officer.

Police responded to an 11:35 p.m. report of an accident on Bridge Street and determined a vehicle had struck a curb and a street light. Clifton Woods, 37, of 10 First St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of drunken driving and a marked lanes violation.


A 9:40 a.m. report that an undesirable female was yelling on a cellphone brought police to Meadow Street, but they were unable to locate her.

Police received a 12:53 p.m. report that a loose dog had chased a man into a house at Butler and Albion streets. An officer subsequently found a dog fitting the description on Albion Street: “Dog was friendly and I secured dog in the yard.”

An intoxicated man was taken into protective custody after a 2:49 p.m. report that he was making vulgar gestures in the area of School and Barr streets, according to the log.
