Peabody police: Biker suffered only minor injuries

PEABODY — Police say the motorcyclist who wasn’t wearing a helmet when he crashed into a wall off Route 1 on Tuesday afternoon — and who was MedFlighted with what was described as serious head trauma shortly thereafter — actually only received minor injuries during the incident.

A trooper at the Danvers barracks said last night that the 39-year-old man — police haven’t released his identity — received stitches to his head and lip, but that he’d already been discharged from Tufts Medical Center and was only MedFlighted in the first place as a precaution.

It was still unclear what caused the accident, which brought police, ambulance personnel and the Peabody Fire Department to 96 Newbury St. late on Tuesday afternoon. But the trooper said the man had apparently been “just driving around the parking lot” on a Suzuki when he struck a retaining wall between the Cabaret Lounge and the Bedrooms store.

The man was taken by ambulance to Kennedy Fields, then to Tufts in Boston via medical helicopter.
