---- — WENHAM — Police say driver fatigue appears to be to blame for a single-vehicle crash that led to the closure of Route 1A during yesterday’s morning commute.

The accident occurred in the area of Larch Row around 5 a.m., when a Dodge Dakota traveling southbound and operated by Paul J. Whitney, 31, of Winchester crashed into two utility poles on that side of the street, according to a press release from Wenham police and an interview with an officer.

There were no injuries, but the poles were severely damaged and utility wires were brought down in the roadway, forcing the road’s closure until nearly 10 a.m. National Grid was still working on the poles as of 3 p.m. yesterday.

Residents received a Reverse-911 notification just before 6:30 a.m. that Route 1A would be closed until 8 a.m. because of the accident.

Hamilton-Wenham Schools Superintendent Michael Harvey said the district’s bus company worked with police to reroute morning buses around the road closure. Some buses were delayed, Harvey said in an 11 a.m. Twitter post.

Officer Shane Kavanagh is investigating the crash.
