Interim Ipswich manager is finalist for Hanover job

IPSWICH — Interim Town Manager Thomas Younger has been named a finalist for the town manager job in Hanover.

Younger, the former town manager of Belmont who was hired in Ipswich last month, is a finalist along with Bridgewater Town Manager Troy Clarkson and Thomas Guerino of Vernon, Vt.

Interviews are scheduled through this week and next week. Hanover's Board of Selectmen may make a hiring decision in early March, said Hanover Town Manager Stephen Rollins, who will retire later this year.

On the South Shore, Hanover has a five-member board of selectmen and a population of more than 13,000.

Ipswich selectmen hired Younger in the first week of January with the understanding that the position would last three to five months, while the board searches for a permanent town manager.

Bob Markel, Ipswich's town manager since 2005, stepped down Dec. 31 to take a town manager job in Kittery, Maine.

Younger resigned in November from his post in Belmont, where he had worked since 2005. Previously, he was town manager in North Reading for 10 years and also worked in Norton and Oak Bluffs.

Over the fall and winter, Younger was a finalist for town manager jobs in Winchester, North Andover and Marblehead but was not hired.
