Two men indicted in robbery spree

SALEM — A pair of North Shore men have been indicted in a robbery spree last year involving banks all over the North Shore and Merrimack Valley.

Jeffrey Monico, 28, who lists addresses in Peabody and Saugus, and Kevin Maloney, 28, of Saugus, were charged in connection with seven holdups and attempted holdups at banks in Danvers, Peabody, Ipswich, Beverly, Andover and Lawrence in April 2008.

The pair were caught as they fled the scene of a credit union holdup in Nashua, N.H., the following month, bringing an end to their alleged spree.

The pair were indicted on:

unarmed robbery charges stemming from the April 17 and April 19 holdups of Salem Five branches in Danvers;

stealing by confinement or putting in fear in a holdup in Peabody;

unarmed robbery charge in the April 24 holdup of a Danversbank branch in Andover;

unarmed robbery in the April 25 holdup of a Sovereign Bank branch in Lawrence;

stealing by confinement in an attempted holdup at the Bank of America branch in Beverly;

and stealing by confinement in a holdup at the Sovereign Bank branch in Ipswich the same day.

The pair are already in custody in the New Hampshire case and are expected to be brought to Salem Superior Court to be arraigned in the Massachusetts holdups within the next several weeks.
