Police: Woman sets fire, slashes kids

SALEM — A woman set her Salem Heights apartment on fire last night, then slashed her two children, according to a police spokesman.

Two people, apparently the children, ages 3 and 8, were taken to Salem Hospital, and one was later MedFlighted to Boston. Neither the extent of their injuries nor any names were released.

The fire drove scores of people onto the street, and detectives were not able to access the seventh-floor crime scene until it was brought under control by the Salem Fire Department.

The mother was being interviewed by detectives as of 11 p.m.
