SALEM — Two people were arrested after two reports of shoplifting at Walgreens on New Derby Street between Wednesday night and yesterday afternoon.
Police responded to the 29 New Derby St. store about 10 p.m. on Wednesday night after a report of suspicious activity and confronted a 46-year-old Lynn woman in aisle 7, according to the incident log. The woman denied stealing any merchandise.
When asked for identification, the woman said she didn’t have any. Police later determined she was wanted on a warrant out of Cambridge District Court with a charge of larceny under $250. She was then arrested. Officers didn’t report finding that she had stolen anything.
Police next responded to the store at 1:52 p.m. yesterday after a report of a shoplifter in aisle 8. The store manager told an officer that a man had been seen putting something in a Walgreens bag he was carrying around the store. He had apparently paid for one prescription and was walking around while waiting for another, according to the log.
Police determined the man had put a $56.30 AlcoMate breath device in his bag, according to the log. The man said he “didn’t mean to stick the item in his bag and was going to pay for it,” but police arrested him anyway.
Gregory P. Vigliotta, 44, of 7 Coolidge Road, Danvers, was taken into custody on a charge of shoplifting by concealing merchandise.
