Danvers woman uninjured in Route 1 crash

---- — DANVERS — Police say a 23-year-old local woman escaped injury during a three-car crash on Route 1 in Chelsea yesterday afternoon that sent two others to the hospital.

The accident occurred about 4:30 p.m. on the northbound side of Route 1, near Route 16, according to a press release from the state police. Troopers from the Revere and Danvers barracks responded to the scene.

A 49-year-old man from Braintree who was driving one vehicle was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A 28-year-old man from Everett who was driving a second vehicle also sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Whidden Hospital in Everett.

The Danvers woman was operating a third vehicle and was uninjured, according to the release.

Police didn’t release the identities of any of the drivers.

The Department of Transportation’s highways division assisted at the scene, as did the Chelsea Fire Department. One lane of Route 1 was closed until about 5 p.m. while a crane removed one of the vehicles from the crash site.

Police didn’t disclose how the accident occurred or what caused it.
