---- — PEABODY — Firefighters quickly extinguished a small blaze on the exterior of a house on Walnut Street on Thursday night.
The Fire Department responded to a report that heavy smoke was coming from 84 Walnut St. at 10:25 p.m. and arrived to find a fire near a second-floor window on the right-hand side of the two-and-a-half story building, said Deputy fire Chief Richard Nelson.
Radio reports indicated that the blaze was quickly extinguished. Nelson said it was contained to the exterior of the structure.
The fire caused $25,000 worth of the exterior damage and $5,000 in damage to belongings inside the building, he said.
There were no reports of injuries, and nobody was thought to have been displaced by the fire.
A building inspector and a fire inspector were called to the scene.
Lynn firefighters provided headquarters coverage during the blaze, and a crew from Lynnfield provided coverage in West Peabody.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
