HAMILTON-WENHAM — The school district now has one less person with an "interim" title.
John Driscoll, who was hired this summer as an interim principal for Miles River Middle School, has been offered a three-year contract to remain in the post.
The Hamilton-Wenham schools have had an interim superintendent and interim principals at the high school and middle school for this school year.
Driscoll said he is excited and very happy to be staying in Hamilton-Wenham.
"I've learned a tremendous amount; there are fantastic teachers here," Driscoll said. "I feel blessed to be here. ... I just feel really lucky to be a part of this district, of this school, and for years to come."
Interim Superintendent Peter Gray announced his decision to hire Driscoll at Thursday's School Committee meeting, after receiving positive feedback about him in meetings with faculty and parents.
Driscoll began working at the middle school Aug. 1 and is being paid $105,000 for the year.
He said staff, students and their families have been "hugely supportive" during his time at the middle school.
Miles River Middle School has roughly 450 students in sixth through eighth grades.
Prior to coming to Hamilton-Wenham, Driscoll was an assistant principal at a middle school in Revere and had previously worked at St. John's Prep as a dean of students and dean of admissions.
He has a decade of teaching experience, at middle schools in Saugus, Revere and inner-city Chicago.
Driscoll has a master's degree in education from Boston College. He lives with his family in Beverly.
Dropping the interim title "allows there to be some continuity and the ability to have additional relationships and trust with faculty," Driscoll said. "There will be a lot to work together on. I'm excited."
