UPDATED: North Shore storm closings roundup

— Here's a roundup of winter storm closings and postponements on the North Shore. Check back regularly for updates as they come in. Information will also be posted on the Salem News Facebook page.



Peabody police have declared a parking ban effective 8 a.m. Friday. Cars not parked off the roads are subject to ticketing. Vehicles will be towed if they impede the flow of emergency vehicles or plowing efforts as required. Residents have permission to park their cars at the Higgins, Carroll and Welch schools. Cars must be removed from the lots by 8 a.m. Saturday. Check here for more information.


A snow emergency will be in effect in Salem as of noon Friday, Feb. 8. During this storm all downtown municipal lots will be available for snow emergency parking at no charge and the Museum Place and South Harbor garage snow emergency parking fees will be capped at $5. Vehicles must be removed from public and private parking lots, particularly at schools, immediately following the cancellation of the snow emergency, weekends included. A winter storm parking ban in Hamilton will go into effect at noon Friday, Feb. 8, and will stay in effect until further notice. Owners of vehicles in violation of the ban are subject to a fine of $20 and may have their vehicles towed at the expense of the owner.


A parking ban in Danvers will be in effect as of 1 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9. Parking in municipal public lots is available for those residents without off-street parking. Emergency response personnel also urge residents to dig out fire hydrants. There is potential for extended power outages in the area. As the storm progresses, the town will evaluate the need to establish an emergency shelter. In an effort to keep the 911 lines open for emergency response, please do not call 911 to report utility outages. To report POWER OUTAGES, contact Danvers Electric & Light at 978-774-0005. For GAS outages, contact National Grid Gas at 1-800-233-5325.


A parking ban in Beverly will be in effect as of 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, and will be in effect for 48 hours. Friday's trash and recycling will be picked up as scheduled. Any cars parked on municipal streets will be towed. Municipal lots available during an emergency parking ban:

A snow emergency is in effect. Residents are reminded that during the impending snow storm there is no on street parking allowed. Highway officials ask that you have all vehicles off of the roadway when the storm starts so they can safety plow. Plow operators are also reminded that you are not allowed to plow snow across the roadway to push it to the other side when clearing driveways. Thank you for your cooperation. The town of Ipswich has declared a State of Emergency. Parking is banned on all town roads as of noon today. Vehicles parked on the street will be towed. Please, shelter in place and stay off of the roads. Parking is permitted in the town municipal lots on Elm Street, Hammett Street, and the MBTA lot. Residents of the Neck should be aware of two tide cycles, at 9:50 p.m. tonight and 10:06 a.m. tomorrow. Jeffrey's Neck Road may be flooded. Please do not travel through flooded roadways and arrange not to travel during these periods. If you must drive, be aware of large snow drifts.


The Salem Caucus, originally scheduled for this Saturday, will be cancelled. Darek Barcikowski, Salem Democratic Committee chairman, will send an email to members as soon as a new date is set.

The House of the 7 Gables will close at 2 p.m. on Friday and remain closed on Saturday, Feb. 9.

Due to the impending storm, Salem’s So Sweet Chocolate & Wine Tasting, scheduled for Friday, Feb. 8, will be postponed to Friday, Feb. 15, at 6:30 p.m., at Colonial Hall in Salem. Pre-sold tickets will be fully transferable, and those who are unable to attend can receive a refund or make a donation to the Salem Main Streets in the same amount. Also, ice sculptures will be installed on Sunday afternoon, and Salem Trolley tours of the ice sculptures will run on Sunday only. For updates, visit

The Mardi Gras YMCA Benefit Concert scheduled for Friday night at the Larcom Theatre in Beverly, has been rescheduled to Saturday, April 6, at 7:30 p.m. All tickets and VIP Packages purchased for event will be honored at the new date. Tickets and more information are available at

Swampscott Senior Center’s Valentines Party, planned for Saturday, has been rescheduled to Sunday, Feb. 17, at 1 p.m. All youth activities planned for Saturday have been canceled.

The Jewish Community Center's after-school program, Adventure on the Hill, is cancelled today. Visit the JCC's website or Facebook page for updates and other cancellations.

Wenham Museum is closed today and possibly Saturday.



Public schools are closed on Friday, Feb. 8, in Salem, Beverly, Peabody, Danvers, Ipswich, Marblehead, Swampscott, Hamilton and Wenham. North Shore Technical and Essex Aggie are also closed.

North Shore Community College, Montserrat College of Art, Salem State University and Gordon College are closed Friday and Saturday, Feb. 8 and 9. Endicott College is closed Friday, Feb. 9.

All of Holten Richmond Theater Organization's "Bugsy Malone, Jr." performances this weekend (at the Holten Richmond Middle School in Danvers) have been cancelled. The show has been rescheduled to run the weekend of March 1 and 2.
