Out for a drive, a couple on Lafayette Street at Loring Avenue were dismayed to see smoke and flames coming from the console, as logged at 10:57 p.m. The Salem Fire Department put out the fire and determined that it was started by an electrical short circuit. The vehicle had to be towed away.

Sunday

A deer caught in a fence on Broadway got police attention at 8:23 a.m. But it was gone by the time they arrived.

Jevon A. Smith-Gomez, 24, of 1000 Loring Ave., Salem, was arrested at 1:18 p.m. by Patrolmen DeeJay Gagnon and Jason Gross on charges of domestic assault and battery, intimidation of a witness, and assault with a dangerous weapon — a knife.

Rodney Clifford, 26, of 82 Michigan Ave., Lynn, was arrested at 2:18 p.m. on Canal Street by officers Deni Gaito, Kathleen Rochville and Sgt. Deni Gaito on charges of driving with a suspended license, having defective equipment and possessing a Class D drug with intent to distribute.

Houseguests are the suspects named by a woman on Briggs Street who told police at 2:24 p.m. that she was missing two rings, a candelabra, a statue and a lamp. There was no evidence of forced entry.

Friday

An accident with personal injury was reported on Endicott Street, according to the log at 5:28 p.m.

Saturday

Rene Rodriquez, 24, of 190 West St., Lawrence, was arrested at 3:41 a.m. on Route 114 by Officer Scott Frost on charges of drunken driving, speeding and marked lanes violations.

Police responded to “unruly customers” at CVS on Maple Street, according to the log at 6:49 p.m.
