---- — BEVERLY — The city is once again offering free two-hour parking at downtown metered parking spaces on certain days during the holiday season, officials announced.
The free two-hour parking will be in effect on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day, as well as on Monday, Dec. 31.
Customers visiting stores and offices in the downtown may park at any on-street or off-street metered or pay-station parking spot for free for up to two hours.
Meters and pay stations will be enforced for stays longer than two hours. “Feeding” of meters or pay stations is not allowed and will be subject to enforcement, the city said.
Posted time limits at unmetered spaces must be observed, and loading zones and handicapped spaces will be enforced as usual.
Employees of downtown businesses should continue to park in the long-term sections of the off-street municipal lots, the city said. The first two hours of parking in those sections will also be free on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day.
The city has offered the free parking for several years in an effort to encourage downtown shopping.
