A Hertz car rental employee told police at 1:52 p.m. that a Proctor Street man who was due to return a borrowed Chevrolet Aveo on Nov. 5 failed to do so. Police contacted the man, who said he had gotten a flat tire in Peabody and subsequently had the car towed; police told him “if Hertz does not get the car back, he will be charged with using without authority.”

A dog named Buttons got off his leash and dove into the canal on Commercial Street, according to a 1:54 p.m. report. The Fire Department was able to retrieve him.



At 3:28 p.m., police arrested Thomas Moore, 54, of 161 Main St., Amesbury, on a charge of drunken driving.



Police received an 8:37 a.m. report that a Cloutmans Lane man had received a call from his house phone when nobody should have been there. Police checked the house: “House appears secure, no cars there.”

An 11:10 a.m. report of a minor accident brought police to Atlantic Avenue and Hewitt Street, where they arrested Sherry Mann, 52, of 14 May St., Marblehead, on charges of driving under the influence of drugs — third offense, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and possession of a Class C drug. No injuries were reported.

A caller reported at 4:25 p.m. that skateboarders were lighting fireworks in the hockey rink on Green Street, but an officer was unable to locate them.
