A Meredith Road man reported prescription medications had been stolen from his residence at 1:28 p.m.
An Aurora Lane man reported at 4:10 p.m. that his ex-wife had sent him an email telling him “he could get shot by a hit man if he travels to another country” and that he had to sell property he owned in Sri Lanka.
Detectives on Essex Street arrested a man on a warrant at 5:22 p.m. and subsequently discovered he was in possession of four Adderall pills without a prescription, according to the log. Matthew Waters, 32, of 4 First St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of illegal possession of a class C substance and the warrant.
Two backpacks found abandoned near the St. Nicholas Church at 64 Forrester St. contained a green raincoat, a blue baseball cap, a paperback book entitled “Origin of Satan,” a digital camera and charger, various hygienic items and a laptop, according to an 8:28 p.m. report. An officer contacted the owner of the bags after finding her name on paperwork inside them.
At 9:26 p.m., police at the Walgreens at 29 New Derby St. arrested Sheena Tassone, 27, of 56 Margin St., Salem, on a charge of shoplifting. Police returned to the area at 9:46 p.m. and arrested Jonathan Benson, 40, of 56 Margin St., Salem, on a charge of shoplifting.
Police received a 10:26 p.m. report that a woman had tried to steal a string of Christmas lights off the bushes in front of the J. Mode store at 17 Front St. The woman who reported the theft said the woman was also seen carrying two large plastic candy canes. “Unknown if they were hers or if they were taken from a nearby business,” wrote police. “A diligent search of the area was made to no avail.”
Police responding to a 4:47 a.m. report of a man pounding on doors found a man yelling in the middle of Beaver Street and subsequently determined he had kicked in the front door of a nearby apartment building, according to the log. Benjamin Davis, 33, of 57 Beaver St., Salem, was arrested on charges of malicious destruction of property over $250 and disorderly conduct.
