The Friends of Beverly Public Library’s annual Spring Book Sale is set for this Saturday through Sunday, April 13, during regular library hours, Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m., at 32 Essex St., Beverly. The sale features a large selection of hardcover and paperback books for all ages and tastes. A smaller selection of music and movies will also be available. All proceeds from the sale benefit the library. Also, a Spring Book Sale Preview Party for members of the Friends of the Beverly Public Library will be held on Friday, April 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. Regular book sale prices will apply with a purchase limit of 15 books. Children’s Friend and Family Services seeks volunteer mentors ages 21 and older from a variety of backgrounds. Each mentor will be matched with one youth, between the ages of 5 and 18, from the North Shore. Mentors and youths meet every week for at least two hours. The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary presents a “Paddlesports America” class, an introductory course for kayakers and canoeists that covers general information about paddle craft and maintenance; operating a paddle craft safely; selecting proper clothing and equipment; laws and regulations related to paddling; and boating emergencies. Kayaks, equipment and clothing will be available for participants to view. Five separate series of classes run on Wednesday evenings, April 9, 16 and 23; May 7, 14 and 21; June 11, 18 and 25; July 9, 16 and 23; and Aug. 6, 13 and 20, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Jubilee Yacht Club, 126-127 Water St., Beverly.
