SALEM — The Salem Redevelopment Authority wants your ideas on the future use of the senior center building.
The 5 Broad St. building, which currently houses the Parks and Recreation Department and the Council on Aging, will become vacant when a new senior center is built.
When the City Council voted in March to build a new senior center at Bridge and Boston Streets, it declared 5 Broad St. surplus property.
The SRA has hired a consultant to study possible reuses of the building, and also is soliciting comments and ideas from the public.
The public meeting is at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow at 120 Washington St.
There have been several suggestions so far, including relocating the City Hall annex from 120 Washington St., or selling the historic Broad Street building to a private developer to help offset the cost of a new senior center.
This brick building was constructed in 1856 as Salem Classical High School.
The SRA will submit its recommendation to the City Council, which will make the final decision.
