City schedules more clinics to give flu vaccines

PEABODY — The city has scheduled more clinics to administer the seasonal and H1N1 flu vaccines.

The H1N1 clinic will be held on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Torigian Community Life Center at 79 Central St. The city is expanding the eligible vaccine recipients to include children of elementary school age — kindergarten through grade five. The other priority groups are pregnant women, immediate household members of pregnant women and immediate household members of children under 6 months of age.

Supplies are limited and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis for members of the priority groups, according to the Peabody Health Department. Reservations will not be accepted. There is no fee for the vaccine, but proof of Peabody residency will be required. Children must be accompanied by parents or guardians.

The city last week provided the H1N1 vaccine to 195 residents at a clinic.

The next seasonal flu clinic will be held on Thursday, Nov. 19, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Torigian Community Life Center.

The clinic will be open to Peabody residents 50 years of age or older, or other adults with chronic conditions that put them at increased risk for influenza-related complications. The clinic is restricted to Peabody residents only.

In addition, the pneumococcal (pneumonia) vaccine will also be offered to Peabody residents 65 and older, or adults with chronic conditions that put them at increased risk for pneumonia-related complications.

Clinic attendees should wear short-sleeved clothing and bring their Medicare or other insurance card with them. Proof of Peabody residency is required. There is no charge for the vaccine.
