Beverly PD warns of spate of car break-ins

BEVERLY — It's unlucky 13 for Beverly police, but that number is likely to go up, the way this month has been.

Thirteen is the number of car break-ins so far this month.

Now, police want to alert car owners to keep their valuables out of the car whether at home or in the office and to always keep their doors locked.

"These actions will significantly reduce the chances of you becoming a crime victim," said Patrolman John McCarthy, department spokesman.

He urged any suspicious activity, people or cars to be reported to police immediately.

The break-ins started on Nov. 1 with one on Dodge Street, but the rest began on Friday. Since that day, the following streets have been targeted: Beverly Hills Avenue, Sunset Drive, Moore Circle, Walcott Road, Stone Street, Clifton Avenue, Oberlin Road, Dearborn Road, Parramatta Road and Pearl Street.

The culprits are either opening unlocked doors or smashing windows. Items targeted are electronics and jewelry.

Beverly police can be reached at 978-922-1212 or 978-921-6046.
