High school music recital set for tomorrow night

SALEM — Salem High musicians will hold a Solo and Small Ensemble Recital in the school auditorium tomorrow night. The concert is free and open to the public.

Twelve to 15 young musicians will perform on a range of instruments, including clarinet, flute, oboe, saxophone and snare drum.

"There's some really fantastic playing," said Cynthia Napierkowski, coordinator of music for the Salem Schools. "A lot of the pieces are college audition-type pieces."

A number of the students are preparing to compete in the Massachusetts Music Educators Association Northeastern District Festival this Saturday, so the annual recital at the high school is good practice.

"We do a public performance of their pieces to help them prepare," Napierkowski said.

The recital is set for 7 p.m. tomorrow in the Salem High School auditorium. The program is approximately one hour.
