Memorial donations boost turkey dinner giveaway

PEABODY — Making a Difference in Peabody gave away 200 turkeys with all the fixings to needy families this week.

The local nonprofit, run by Scott Frasca, was able to add to the bounty this year because of about $2,000 in donations made in memory of his father, Dan Frasca, who died earlier this year.

Scott Frasca said his mother, Nancy, and siblings, Dan Jr., Jodi Gibeley and Colleen Rosati, decided they wanted the donations to go toward food for the holidays.

"He was big on holidays and he believed in families," Scott Frasca said of his father. "We wanted it to be as full as possible, and that's what this effort was all about."

The nonprofit's executive director estimated that nearly 800 people would benefit from the group's donations made yesterday and today.

Making a Difference worked with the city's eight elementary schools, North Shore Head Start and Higgins Middle School to identify students and their families in need.

In addition to the nonprofit's food donations, Hannaford's Market also contributed cans of green beans, corn, cranberry sauce, gravy and bags of stuffing.

Nearly 70 people volunteered to package and distribute the food, Frasca said.

He was pleased with being able to help so many people with the gifts in his father's name.

"It's a huge, huge thing," Frasca said. "It's amazing."
