Santa’s visit to Salem tonight is postponed

SALEM -- Santa’s scheduled arrival tonight on the roof of the Hawthorne Hotel in Salem has been postponed because of the bad weather.

But don’t worry -- Santa will visit instead next Friday, Dec. 4. Festivities will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Salem Common, with music and free hot chocolate. Santa will arrive on the hotel roof at 6 p.m. and descend with the help of Salem firefighters. He and his elves will distribute candy to children before leading a procession down Essex Street to the East India Square fountain to light the Christmas tree.

Inside the mall, children can visit with Santa and enjoy face painting and other activities.
