HAMILTON — The regional school district's assistant superintendent and business manager, Paul Szymanski, is the lone finalist for the school business manager's job in Billerica.
A search committee decided to recommend just one of its candidates, but the School Committee may yet choose to interview other applicants.
Reached for comment yesterday, Szymanski declined to talk about his pursuit of the job until the Hamilton-Wenham School Committee is apprised of his decision.
If he does get the job, Szymanski would be working for a substantially larger school district.
According to state Department of Education records, Billerica had about 6,100 students enrolled in its school system in 2007, the most recent year with available figures.
The school district's operating budget was about $64.7 million that year.
In Hamilton-Wenham, about 2,080 students were enrolled, and the school operating budget was $26.6 million.
And while Hamilton and Wenham have five schools between them, there are nine schools in Billerica.
