3,000 homes in Salem, Lynn lose power

SALEM — An estimated 3,000 customers in Salem and Lynn lost electricity early yesterday morning, according to National Grid.

The power outage hit around 6:30 a.m.

In Salem, it knocked out service all the way from the Lynn line to the downtown. It affected National Grid customers near Highland Avenue, Jefferson Avenue and along a section of Washington Street, including the City Hall annex at 120 Washington St.

Service was restored to Salem by about 8 a.m., the utility said. It took another hour to get all the power back on in Lynn.

The trouble started when a piece of a so-called static wire fell on the power lines that run along Lynnfield Street in Lynn, a National Grid spokeswoman said.
