PEABODY — A former Peabody resident is being held on $500,000 cash bail after his arrest in Lynnfield for allegedly trafficking oxycodone.
Ryan Caverly, 31, now of Lynnfield, and Vincent Migliore, 25, of Everett, were arrested Monday on charges of trafficking oxycodone (more than 14 grams), trafficking oxycodone (more than 28 grams), and conspiring to violate drug laws.
A woman who lives with Caverly, Adriana D'Alleva, 18, was also arrested.
The charges involve several drug deals over the past few months by the two men to undercover police officers, according to prosecutors.
"The defendants are alleged to have sold a total of 800 oxycodone pills and 100 Ecstasy pills with total street value of $12,850," said Steve O'Connell, spokesman for the Essex County district attorney's office.
O'Connell said police found a small amount of pills, marijuana, evidence of drug distribution, and approximately $32,000 in cash in Caverly's apartment at Lynnfield Common on Route 1 north.
Migliore, who was arrested on a road leading to Caverly's apartment, was held on $250,000 bail.
Police said they found 399 oxycodone tablets and eight OxyContin tablets on Migliore's person.
D'Alleva is charged with trafficking oxycodone (more than 14 grams) and conspiring to violate drug laws. She was arrested in Beverly. The judge set her bail at $10,000.
Both men were arraigned Tuesday at Peabody District Court. Judge Robert Brennan ordered that if either Caverly or Migliore is able to post bail, a hearing must be held prior to his release to determine the source of the bail money.
During the arraignment, Assistant District Attorney Jane Prince told the judge Migliore was stopped at an Amtrak train station in Chicago on Dec. 10 by the Drug Enforcement Agency "at which time agents found him with $85,000 in cash."
"It is believed the money was used to purchase narcotics and, as a result, the money was seized pending a civil forfeiture hearing," O'Connell said.
This is not Caverly's first arrest.
In 1997, he was charged as an accessory in the beating death of Philip Gardner, 49, a homeless veteran, in Beverly. The accessory charge stemmed from his allegedly helping to dispose of evidence in the case.
Caverly was also involved in a drug case in March 2008. Danvers police Chief Neil Ouellette spotted Caverly and another man looking into a white pickup truck at a Planet Fitness parking lot, the scene of numerous car breaks.
Caverly was found not guilty in the case after Salem District Court judge Robert Cornetta suppressed evidence because the chief's hunch of something being up upon seeing the two men looking into the truck threw out the evidence in the case. The evidence included $4,600 in cash, several dozen oxycodone pills, a hammer and a notebook police believe contained records of drug transactions.
The men will both appear in court on Feb. 4 for a pretrial hearing.
The arrests were the result of a joint investigation by Peabody and Revere police, the DEA, the Suffolk County Drug Task Force assigned to the Office of Suffolk District Attorney Daniel Conley, and the Essex County Drug Task Force assigned to the Essex County district attorney's office.
