SALEM — Masonry work on a Washington Street building will bring out several stories of scaffolding and bustling construction workers over the next two weeks.
Bill Goldberg, co-owner of Goldberg Properties, said the company has renovated the interior of the building at 75 Washington St. in recent years and now is doing some repointing of the brick exterior. The 28,560-square-foot structure was built in 1882, according to city assessor records.
"We need to do some touch-up at the top," he said.
Goldberg said the company wanted to complete the work well before October and expected to finish within seven to 10 days. Work to set up the scaffolding started Tuesday.
The property owner said signs will go up announcing the businesses are open during the masonry work.
"The purpose for the staging and the plywood is to protect the public," Goldberg said. "We just want to make sure everybody's safe."
