Police disperse Beverly homeless encampment

BEVERLY — A homeless settlement, including five or six campsites, cooking pits and camping gear, has been ejected from a wooded area off Woodland Avenue and behind Ayers Ryal Side Elementary School.

"Our patrols are aware of it," Lt. Timothy Hegarty said. "Now that the weather's warmer, some have tried to set up camps there. Obviously, you can't do that."

All the campers have been evicted, including two on Friday night at 6:54 p.m. According to the police log, they were "bothering kids."

Police will continue to monitor the area. In addition, they alerted the Public Works Department to remove any remaining gear left behind "as soon as possible."
