Fire destroys house on Island Park Road

IPSWICH — Fire destroyed a single-family, Colonial home at 17 Island Park Road last night, the second serious fire of the day in Ipswich.

No injuries were reported, and the family was not home at the time, fire Chief Art Howe said. Firefighters were still battling the blaze as The Salem News went to press last night.

Howe said the three-bedroom home was fully involved in flames when firefighters arrived around 10 p.m. Soon after, the whole front section of the house collapsed. Firefighters were pouring water onto the blaze from a ladder truck and from the yard. Howe said the building is "a complete loss."

Ipswich assessors' records list the home as belonging to Mark and Laura Kilgour. A neighbor said they live there with their two young sons.

"It was scary for a while because no one knew if they were inside or not," said John Baren, a neighbor who lives at 13 Island Park Road.

Island Park Road is located off of Jeffreys Neck Road. Assessors' records value the 1955 home at $357,000.

No cause had been determined last night, and fire officials will be investigating.
