Slideshow previews 'Ghost Army'

BEVERLY — A Beverly Historical Society trustee has produced a slideshow as a prelude to the upcoming “The Ghost Army” documentary on public television.

Jim Morrocco said he was inspired to make the slideshow after meeting two of the driving forces behind the documentary, Martha Gavin and Rick Beyer, when it was the subject of an exhibition at the Beverly Historical Society last year.

Gavin is a Beverly resident whose uncle was a member of the Ghost Army. Beyer is the documentary’s writer, producer and director.

“The Ghost Army” tells the story of a secret military unit during World War II that used deceptive tactics, including inflatable tanks and sound effects, to deceive the enemy.

The documentary had its world premiere last month at Salem Film Fest and won the audience award. It is scheduled to be shown on broadcast television for the first time on May 21 on PBS.

Morrocco’s slideshow is being run on BevCam, Beverly’s local cable access station.
