Police responded to a 1:45 a.m. report of a fight in the street at 75 Aborn St. and arrested Crisniel Soto, 20, of 155 Washington St., Apt. 3, Peabody, on a charge of disorderly conduct.
Security at Bosun’s Marine at 205 Newbury St. reported at 1:50 a.m. that they had interrupted a man who was breaking into a $300,000 boat and that the man ran off into the woods toward Interstate 95. Subsequently arrested was Joseph Lanzilli, 33, of 16 Clifton Ave., Saugus, on charges of breaking and entering in the nighttime with intent to commit a felony, trespassing, and wanton destruction of property under $250.
A Proctor Street resident reported the theft of five guns at 1:21 p.m.
Police extinguished a two-alarm brush fire near Downing and Price roads, in back of the Salem Country Club. The first report of the fire came in at 2:12 p.m., and it took firefighters about two hours to extinguish the 4-acre blaze, one said. No injuries were reported.
Police received a 5:25 p.m. report of an “assault with shovel” at 2 Home St. and subsequently arrested Gary Overton, 34, of the same address, on a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon. Officer Mike Boccuzzi said in an email that Overton was involved in an argument with another man when he lunged at him with a shovel. No injuries were reported.
An 11:22 p.m. report of screaming brought police to 141 Hale St., but they didn’t report finding anything suspicious.
An officer recovered nine hypodermic needles from a plot at Central Cemetery near the Butman Street entrance, according to a 12:35 p.m. log item “There was also trash, including liquor cans and cotton swabs,” an officer wrote.
A UPS package was stolen from a porch on Broughton Drive, according to a 3:54 p.m. log item.
A purse was stolen from a vehicle at 220 Cabot St., according to a 4:09 p.m. report.
