People's United is closing Salem branch

SALEM — People's United Bank plans to close one of its three branches in Salem.

The bank at 6 Paradise Road, near Vinnin Square, is scheduled to close by the end of March, spokeswoman Valerie Carlson said. Two branches in Andover will also close.

Carlson said the three branches are shutting down because they are near other People's United branches. The other Salem branches are at 125 Canal St. and 7 Traders Way.

The bank is trying to find jobs in other branches for employees affected by the closings, Carlson said.

People's United is not planning to close any other branches in Massachusetts, she said.

The Connecticut-based bank has 58 branches in Massachusetts, including 28 former Danversbank branches acquired when People's United bought Danversbank last year.
