---- — PEABODY — Security cameras at Peabody Veterans Memorial High School went live at the Peabody Police Department on Tuesday, according to a statement from Peabody police.

A 52-inch monitor was installed in the 9-1-1 control room, which displays 30 feeds from the high school with real-time video from cameras installed there.

The School Committee also plans to install a similar and more elaborate system in the new Higgins Middle School, the announcement said.

The funding for the project was supplemented by a Secure Our Schools federal grant from the Department of Justice.

School officials are in the process of applying for additional funding to put similar protective technology in the remaining Peabody schools, police said.
