Peabody man faces drug, firearms charges

PEABODY — A Peabody man was arrested yesterday morning following a joint narcotics investigation involving Peabody and Salem detectives, and assisted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, police said.

At 5 a.m. yesterday, police arrested Joel Ayala, 28, of 2 Munroe Court, Peabody, at his home on charges of possession with intent to distribute a class A drug and possession of a firearm without a license.

The operation occurred without incident, according to a statement released by Peabody police Detective Michael Crane.

Police on the scene were assisted by a SWAT team from the North Eastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council. K-9 units from the Salem, Chelmsford and Westford police departments were also on hand.

During the search of Ayala’s home, police seized one semi-automatic handgun, drugs and cash.

Ayala was scheduled to be arraigned in Peabody District Court yesterday morning.
