Saturday

Police went to The Village Tavern, 168 Essex St., at 12:29 a.m. on a report of an altercation between staff and two patrons.

A tenant in an apartment at 21 Essex St., was issued a $100 ticket for a noise violation after police responded to a loud party at 12:30 a.m. This was the second time police had gone there on a noise complaint in recent months.

The police and firefighters went to 12 Pope St. at 6 a.m. on a report of fire and detected smoke on the first two floors of the apartment building. Firefighters found smoke coming from a trash compactor. They took the compactor outside and extinguished the smoldering material.

Gissell Jiminian, 37, of 199 Lafayette St., was arrested at 12:23 p.m. at 21 Palmer St. on two counts of domestic assault and battery.

Both drivers were cited following a two-car accident at 2:50 p.m. at Marlborough Road and Rockdale Avenue. Michael Rosengren, 18, of 77 Valley St., Salem, was cited for driving at a speed greater than reasonable during snowy conditions, and Juan Ochoa, 51, of 80 Hichborn St., Revere, was cited for driving without a license.

A Salem Taxi driver, Julio Jimenez, 69, was cited at 6:17 p.m. for leaving the scene of a property damage accident on Peabody Street after his taxi struck and damaged the driver’s side mirror of a parked car.

Police went to Lafayette Place at 6:32 p.m. on a report of a passenger not willing to pay a cab fare. The taxi driver said he drove the woman to Salem from South Station in Boston, via Salem, N.H. The driver was able to reach the woman’s mother in Kennebunk, Maine, who said she would pay the fare if he would drive her daughter to Kennebunk. The cab driver agreed to that arrangement and headed to Maine.
