'Unknown man' who entered apartment facing charge

SALEM — A 19-year-old Winthrop man was arrested early yesterday morning on a charge of malicious destruction after inviting himself into a party and breaking a window when asked to leave, police said.

Ross H. Kratman, 19, was arrested after admitting to breaking a window at 34 Loring Ave, police said. He was charged with malicious destruction of property over $250.

According to a police, Kratman was unknown to anyone inside an apartment on the second floor when he “invited himself in” around 12:29 a.m.

“When he was told to leave ... this unknown male on his way out the front door smashed the front door windows,” the log item read.

Police initially did not have any suspect until Kratman admitted to breaking the window at 1 a.m. when a Salem State University police officer brought him in for protective custody.

“Kratman had cuts on his hand and admitted to breaking the front door windows to 34 Loring Ave. during the protective custody booking process,” police wrote.
