---- — SALEM — The Supreme Judicial Court will hear the Salem power plant case March 4.

The Conservation Law Foundation has appealed a key approval given the project by the state’s Energy Facilities Siting Board.

The CLF, a leading environmental group, contends that the developers of the proposed natural gas plant did not prove it can meet the emission standards established in the 2008 Massachusetts Global Warming Solutions Act.

Footprint Power, the power plant developer, needs this approval and other permits to secure financing for the $800 million project.

The plant is expected to open in 2016.
