Informational meeting scheduled on CPA

---- — BEVERLY — The Beverly Community Preservation Committee will hold an informational meeting Thursday, Jan. 30, at 7 p.m. at City Hall.

The meeting will give potential applicants seeking Community Preservation Act funds a chance to ask questions and receive guidance from the committee on the application process and project evaluation criteria. The meeting will also provide a forum to discuss potential projects.

Voters in Beverly adopted the Community Preservation Act in November 2012. The law allows communities to establish a fund using a property tax surcharge — 1 percent, in Beverly’s case — and matching state funds to support open-space acquisition, historic preservation, recreation and affordable housing.

Citizens groups, nonprofit organizations and city government can submit proposals for CPA funding to the Community Preservation Committee, which recommends projects to the City Council.

The deadline for filing a pre-application project eligibility determination form is Feb. 14. The committee will determine which projects are eligible for funding, and the full application will be due on May 1.

The committee is planning to make its funding recommendations to the City Council in October.
