Peabody tangles with massive mulch, brush fire

PEABODY — Firefighters from Peabody and surrounding communities are tangling with a mulch and brush fire — which also ignited heavy construction equipment — at a private recycling facility on Farm Avenue near the Peabody public works garage.

The area, near the Route 128 and Interstate 95 interchange in Peabody, was blanketed with smoke late this afternoon. Fire officials called for personnel from the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency for assistance shortly after 5 p.m., while the fire was still blazing. The fire had been called in around 4 p.m.
