Hoop dreams come true

Hamilton's Carter-Williams selected by Philadelphia in NBA Draft

The Salem News

---- — Hamilton’s Michael Carter-Williams was selected 11th overall last night by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2013 National Basketball Association Draft.

Carter-Williams, a 6-foot-6 point guard who played two years at Syracuse University, brings excellent play-making ability and size for his position to a Sixers team that now has a need for a ball-handler.

In a proposed trade last night, Philadelphia sent Jrue Holiday, last season’s starting point guard, to the New Orleans Pelicans for the draft rights to Nerlens Noel, a 6-foot-11 center from the University of Kentucky who was selected sixth overall last night.

Noel is also a Massachusetts resident, having grown up in Everett.

Carter-Williams played his freshman year of high school basketball at Hamilton-Wenham Regional before transferring to St. Andrew’s in Rhode Island.
