Saturday rollover slows traffic on 128

PEABODY — Drivers experienced some major inconvenience on Saturday night after an 18-wheel tractor-trailer rolled over just before 8 p.m. on the ramp between Goodwin Circle and Route 128 south.

The driver was taken by ambulance to the hospital, but state police believe his injuries were minor cuts and scratches. He told conflicting stories of the cause of the accident, saying at one point that he swerved to avoid a stopped vehicle and at another that he was forced to swerve as he was passed by a vehicle, according to police.

In any case, police say his truck rolled over and crushed the guardrail. The accident was visible from Route 128 and slowed traffic going in both directions.

The ramp was closed for the night, as it was deemed too dangerous without a guardrail. The truck, said to have been carrying household goods, was back on its wheels by 9 p.m.
